Audition Information

Join us for the 2018-2019 Season

University Chorus

  • What is the audition like?
A brief, 5-minute check of your range, voice quality, and ability to read music.
  • Do I need to prepare anything?
No. We will ask you to sing simple scales, and do some basic sight-reading. You may be asked to sing a small portion of a song of your choice, but it can be as simple as Happy Birthday.

  • When are auditions?
Auditions for the 2018-2019 season will be held on Saturday, August 25, 12-5pm, and Thursday and Friday, August 30-31, 6-9pm.
  • Where are auditions?
Come to the hallway outside Schwartz 301 and you will be directed to your audition (no need to sign up for a time).
  • When does University Chorus rehearse?
We rehearse Mondays from 7:30-9:30pm. The maximum ensemble size is 150 members.

Concert Choir

  • What will I do in the audition?
Dr. Nelson will ask you about your previous choral experience, vocalize you through your range, and ask you to sightread.
  • Do I need to bring a prepared piece?
This is optional. If you have one, it would be to your advantage to sing a prepared piece. It gives you an opportunity to show your musicality and phrasing. A classical piece is best, although a folk song is also acceptable. If you don't have a piece, not a problem.
  • Do I need an accompanist?
No, Dr. Nelson will serve as your accompanist.

  • When are auditions?
    Audition dates for the 2018-2019 season will be held on August 27th, 3-5pm, August 28th, 3-5pm & 7-9pm, August 29th, 3-5pm & 7-9pm, and August 30th, 3-5pm.
  • Where are auditions?
Dr. Nelson's office - Schwartz 301. The audition sign up sheet will also be on his door.
  • When will I know if I made it into Concert Choir?
The roster will be posted outside Dr. Nelson's office soon after auditions are completed.
  • When does Concert Choir rehearse?
We rehearse in the Schwartz Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm and Fridays from 4-5pm.
